After viewing part of the NILE video in class, in what ways do people use water?

After looking at the powerpoint, sent by email, how do people try to conserve water?

Based on one of the photos in your powerpoint, do you think that we should have a lock on the water supply from time to time? Please explain your reason!

23 comments:

  1. People use water for cleaning, food, hygiene, entertainment, transportation, gardening, and other things. People try to conseve water by putting a lock on their water supply, re-using rain water, and upgrading their things to save more water. I think we should have a lock on our water supply so that we don't use too much water and we don't waste anything. If we said that we could only take one shower, two bathroom trips, one load of clothes in the washing machine, clean the fishtank 1 a month, water our plants 2 a day, and not throw away water, we would save lots of water. That means that there will be more water, which means more water for our children, and more water in developing countries. All we have to do is not waste water by doing very simple things.

    1. People used water for many different purposes, from surival, to beliefs. For surival, the peope used the Nile river to catch fist, and to drink water when availible. For religons, water plays a huge role for many festivals, an example is a long time ago the people from Egypt believed that, they had to pray to the got of the Nile for the flood each year. So the Niles (White Nile and the Blue Nile) play and important part in Egypt.

    2. I believe that we should lock our water supply for at least a couple of hours each day, or when we are not using the water supply, so that way we should at least be saving some water for the future time bcause some people say "Every drop counts." Also if we don't start preserving clea water in the future time we would have no water.

    1. To bathe
    2. For food
    3. For water to drink
    4. Cleaning
    5. Transportation
    6. Gardening
    7. Entertainment
    8. Play
    9. Festivals

How do people try to conserve water?

    1. Make websites to maybe convince people to conserve water.
    2. put a lock on their water taps

Do you think that we should have a lock on the water supply from time to time?

I don’t think that we should have a lock on our water supply because it is not necessary but we just need to be careful that we turn of our taps when there is no point in having them on. Such as when you are washing your hands you can turn off the water when you get the soap and scrub your hands and same with dishes.

    1. People try to conserve water by many different ways like not letting the water run while you are brushing your teeth,by taking a short bath, by adjusting the sprinklers to not let the water go the the path way.
    2. I believe that water supplyies should be locked for few hours a day or the time that people are not using water they can lock the water supplies. Some people say 'Every drop counts' which I think is a very good saying because whenever I shower I always think about people who don't have water to shower in and that saying really touces me.

In the NILE video I noted how people use water for basic sanitation, religion, cleaning their clothes and bodies, drinking, cooking and various other uses. Of course water is essential for all life and we can see this in Egypt very clearly indeed. Without the river Nile, the country we know as Egypt probaly not exist. The annual flooding of the river brings life to the country. This is why the river was worshipped as a gift from the gods in ancient Egyptian times.

People in some parts in Kenya keep a lock on the tap to limit the amount of water each person uses. In the developed world, each person can make a difference by behaving more responsibly e.g.
Take quick showers instead of deep baths
Only wash clothes in a machine when you have a full load and choosing a machine with a water saving cycle.
Dont water your garden unless it REALLY needs watering.

Whether or not to lock the water supply depends upon the environment e.g. desert and whether you can trust people on how to use water properly.

    1. Bathing
    2. drinking
    3. Washing cars
    4. Watering plants
    5. Festivals
    6. Entertainment
    7. Games
    8. Transportation
    9. Washing clothes
    10. For food

After I looked at the powerpoint the ways that people conserve water are putting locks on their water supply. In Africa they do this because water is precious in their country. This way we can save water in our country.

I think that in Thailand we need water locks because a lot of people keep their water running when they are brushing their teeth, cleaning their houses, washing their dishes and a lot of other uses. I think it would be best if the after the protests the govenment should take action and have water locks in Bangkok or even the whole of Thailand.

  7. People use water for.
    Bathing
    Drinking
    Brushing our teeth
    washing cars
    washing clothes
    festivals and culture
    ELECTRICITY

people try to conserve water by putting locks on there water taps, Having 3 mins. showers, Turning the tap off when brushing there teeth and etc.

I think we should lock our taps some of the time because so we can conserve water and save it but on hot seasons I dont think we should keep the taps locked because we might get dehydrated and stuff

  8. After watching the Nile video I now know more about how people use water. People use water for drinking, washing, watering the plants, bathing, festivals and a lot more. The River Nile also gave lives for animals and plants.

I think people should lock their water supply for at least 2 hours a day because sometimes people waste water just for fun. We should also save water by turning it off when we are not using. We shouldn’t waste water because sometimes we just waste it too much while some people don’t even have enough water to drink. I know that when it’s Songkran we have to spray water at each other but sometimes we waste too much.

  10. How do people try to conserve water?
People try and conserve water by:
    • Only running their clothes washer and dishwasher when they are fully loaded.
    • Watering their lawns in the morning and the evening when temperatures are cooler to minimise evaporation.
    • Washing their fruits and vegetables in a pan of water instead of under the tap.
    • Agreeing to only use the water taps during certain hours of the day so as not to waste.
    • When running a bath, plug the tub before turning the water on, then adjust the temperature as the tub fills up.
    • Use a broom instead of a hose to clean your driveway and sidewalk and save water every time.
Do you think that we should have a lock on the water supply from time to time? Explain.
I think that we could maybe have a lock on the water for an hour or two during each week in Thailand so that we can save water. The reason I think we should have the lock on during each week is so that we can help save the environment but I think it is better to have it only once a week in case there are any emergencies in which people need water.
In what ways do people use water?
    People use water to:
    • Drink
    • To wash themselves, their clothes and utensils
    • For cooking
    • So that they can grow crops
    • The Nile helped them transport goods by riding a boat down the river

1.People use water in many ways. Here is a list of it:
    •Showering
    •Travelling
    •Drinking
    •Catching food
    •Playing
    •Watering Plants
    •Washing
    •Trading
    •Cooking

    2.People conserve water by:
•Don’t let water run when you’re not using it
•Run your clothes washer and dishwasher only when they are full
    •Reuse water (If possible)
•Encourage people to promote water conservation
•Put a lock on the taps from time to time

3.I think we shouldn’t put a lock on our taps from time to time because if it’s an emergency and we really need water, we won’t be able to access it. But if we don’t lock the taps, kids can waste water by leaving it on when they don’t need to use it so we need to teach them to conserve water and emphasize that water is very important in our lives.

If we lock the taps, kids won’t be able to waste water and they will think water is very precious. When they grow up, they will tell their kids to conserve water and if this goes on and on, people will stop fighting for it (It will be enough for everybody).

So I’m not sure if we should lock the taps!!!!!

  13. 1. In what ways do people use water?

People use water for drinking, planting trees and plants, showering, brushing teeth, swimming, cleaning your house/apartment, steam and sauna rooms, filtration, ice, snow, hail ,sleet, desalination, distillation, water sports such as knee boarding, wakeboarding and surfing, skiing, snow and washing hair. People also use water for playing, experimenting, testing, measuring, flushing, washing dishes, air conditioning, sprinklers, fountains, taps, sinks, spas, etc.

    2. How do people conserve water?

People conserve water by spending less time showering or bathing, adjusting sprinklers so only your lawn is watered and not the house, sidewalk or street, installing covers on pools and spas and check for leaks around your pumps, not letting the water run while brushing your teeth and washing fruits and vegetables in a pan of water instead of running water from the tap. Some other ways people conserve water are not letting the shower run while using the toilet, upgrade old toilets with water efficient models, letting a local shared tap be unlocked for a certain amount of time and limiting use of washing machine and dishwasher by putting more clothes at a time in the washing machine and putting more dishes, utensils, cups and glasses at a time in a dishwasher.

    3. Do you think that we should have a lock on the water supply from time to time? Explain your reason!

I think at times we should have a lock on the water supply for certain hours of a day because I believe that if we do lock on the water supply we will be saving enough water to keep ourselves healthy for the rest of our lives, every drop of water we waste is like a person dying each day from starvation, lack of thirst and malnourishment. If we don’t waste our vital source of life, in this case being water, probably every human being and living thing on planet earth will have enough water for there whole lives, we must take action by having a lock on our water supply for certain hours of a day.

After looking at the powerpoint, sent by email, how do people try to conserve water?

People try to conserve water by not wasting a single droplet like for example: "Run your cloths washer and dishwasher only when they are full, you can save up to 1,000 gallons a month."

Based on one of the photos in your powerpoint, do you think that we should have a lock on the water supply from time to time? Please explain your reason!

They should and they should not, they should because maybe they might just wast water by playing with it or something else, they should not because maybe what if some one was so thursty and had no water left at his/her house and the tap was locked. what would they do?

  15. People use water in the following ways:
    •Bathing
    •Drinking
    •Traveling
    •Watering plants
    •Playing
    •Fishing
    •Cooking

    People conserve water by:
•When washing dishes water by hand, fill up one sink with wash water and the other with rinse water.
•Adjust your plant sprinkler only where needed.
    •Reuse water.
•Don’t let the water run when you are applying soap.
    •At home reuse your towels.

We shouldn’t put a lock on the water supply because we need water every day and every house of the day and there is no point locking for 30 minutes or less because it won’t make that big of a difference. If we don’t lock the water supply it must be, being wasted somewhere, most probably by kids but if you do lock it kids won’t be able to waste it but then adults would face problems. Maybe we won’t be able to cook food, drink water, shower etc.

I am still confused if we should or not. We also can’t decide a time when no one would need water because that’s never going to happen. Plus, I the morning we need to take a shower, in the afternoon we need to cook lunch, at night time we need for dinner. If we lock the water after everyone sleeps (12:30 am), there is no point doing that because we are saving water when we sleep.

    7. Anything You Could Imagine :)

    2. How Do People Conserve Water?
People Conserve Water in Many Kinds of Way, Some People Conserve/Save Water By Closing the Tap While Washing As in Teeth, Shower, Cleansing, Cleaning, or Close the Main Source of at a Certain Time so That The Whole Household Wouldn't Run On Water For a Certain Time For Example: They Stop the Water After Midnight Because Most People are Sleeping till 6:00 AM or Maybe 8 Depending On How Much People is Awake At That Time. But Some Households Just Reuse Water By Using the Water That a Person Just Used For Washing Vegetables/Fruits to Wash the Dishes Also Some People (People Who Are Wealthy)Just Filters Water By Maybe a Machine into Water That You Could Use For Washing but Not Too Clean For Drinking.

After Reading Mitthi's Blog I Think She Has Point Too Because No One Would Be Using Water At Such a Late Time Because Everyone is Sleep But of Couse There Would Be People Who Sleeps Late But it Still Only Save About 0.05% of Water or Less So it's No Point.

    3. Do you think that we should have a lock on the water supply from time to time? Explain your reason!

If at An Building On, If at An House Maybe if Everyone Argrees on It but If it is An School of Course Because No Students Can Offend Teachers Unless You Have a Reasonable Reason of Course But Not in An Building Because There Will Be a Lot of People and Not All People Use Water at The Same Time.

That is My Comment/Opinion For Do you think that we should have a lock on the water supply from time to time but Despite the Fact That People Don't Use Water At The Same Time So It Would Be Hard To Lock The Water Supply Because You Never Know When People Are Going To Use.

  18. People use water in different ways
Here are lists of some of the ways they use water:
     To drink
     Wash dishes
     Electricity
     Swimming
     Watering plants
     Cooking
    And etc.
    People conserve water by:
 Using the water that you bathed in to water the plants
 Wash your fruits and vegetables in a pan of water instead of running water from the tap.
 Use a broom instead of a hose to clean your driveway and sidewalk
 Don’t fill your whole bathtub with water every time, just shower
 You can shower for three minutes and also turn the tap off when not in use
 Reuse your towels before washing them
     Reuse water
Do you think that we should have a lock on the water supply from time to time?
I don’t think we should put a lock on the water from time to time because people still need water. For example: What if someone was dehydrated at one point when the water supply was locked and they hadn’t drunken water at the time they needed to? There is a possibility of them to die or faint. Or if you just ran a mile and you were planning to join the Olympics one day and you were really thirsty and stinky because of all the sweat, you really want to take a shower and you really want a drink. But the water supply is locked so you just have to sit there feeling miserable. So in my opinion I don’t think we should lock the water supply, but even if we didn’t, it’s still going to be wasted but we can’t prevent that unless you make a law of no wasting water or something but I think that people will still waste the water thinking that this law was kinda stupid and that they won’t be caught.
I mean everyday someone dies because of the lack of water and because there poor they aren’t able to afford water. Think about the people in Africa for example, they walk like 1 hour just to get water and if they spill some water they have to walk another hour t get more water. So we should think how lucky we are that we can afford water and just waste it. Most of us don’t even realize or think when we are wasting water, that the water we waste every day, how many people we can save with the water we wasted. Most of us just think about other problems like oh no look at my nail or etc. last week my friend Hannah made me realize that no matter how bad your life may be, your still lucky to have everything that is essential to live. Hannah was talking about a different subject though. She was talking about the orphans but it made me realize how lucky we all are, I mean we might still want things like an ipod but if we think about what the people who don’t get enough water want, are wants will be completely different
So we shouldn’t lock the water supplies in my opinion.

People use water in many ways here is a list some of the ways people use water:
     Washing
     Cooking
     Showering
     Drinking
     Cleaning
     Watering plants
     Get electricity
People try to conserve water by:
 They adjust sprinklers so only their lawn is watered and not the house, sidewalk, or street.
 They run their clothes washer and dishwasher only when they are full. They can save up to 1,000 gallons a month.
 They Water their lawn and garden in the morning or evening when temperatures are cooler to minimize evaporation.
 They Wash their fruits and vegetables in a pan of water instead of running water from the tap.
 They use a broom instead of a hose to clean your driveway and sidewalk and save water every time
 They collect the water they use for rinsing fruits and vegetables, then they reuse it to water houseplants.
 They shorten their shower by a minute or two and they save up to 150 gallons per month.
 They use sprinklers for large areas of grass. They water small patches by hand to avoid waste.
 They also try to use the amount of water they need to use not one drop more.
Based on one of the photos in the power point:
I don’t think that we should have a lock on the water supply from time to time because it is not prohibiting people from not having water or having a small amount of water that will make them learn to save water people have to be educated to not waste water and raise awareness about this issue in the whole world.
So I think we should not lock up the water supply.

  20. Buddy Chawanwit Karoonyavanich said that I rock

    1) The Nile – How do people use the water?
People use the Nile River by farming, drinking and washing. People also use the Nile for fishing. The Egyptians also believed that the Nile was a big part of the world that they lived in. When the floodplain was flooded, the people would often move and settle in another place or go fishing for the fish that the flood brings. People mainly depend on the Nile because that it brings food, hygiene and water to the harsh desert.

    2) Conserve – How do people conserve water?
People who are not aware of the amount of the water they waste everyday is often using the amount like the water used in the ‘power point presentation’. People can conserve water by doing simple swaps, changes and inspections in their daily routine. By doing such things, people then save a lot of gallons or liters of water consumed daily. People are trying to raise awareness of other people (for example the 100-ways-to-conserve website) but sometimes the people ignore it or are not informed, therefore the unneeded wasting water habit goes on.

I would lock my tap because that if I locked the tap after the use or limited time, I would be able to cancel any leaks or dripping. That would have a great effect on losing the pay on the water bill. Also to save water from unnecessary hygienic use, like instead of using the toilet and waste water by flushing, I prefer to use the primitive and barbaric by today’s standards, by using the bushes. Locking sinks would stop a majority of people from using the sink very long. If a majority of people’s sinks water stops being wasted, that water could help the dehydrated and thirsty people by giving water into their mouths and hands. Also locking sinks stop thefts from stealing your sink.

  21. After see the vidio in class i got know that water is used in many ways like for showing, drinking water ,for celebrations ,Activity’s
    for animals , for water.

i think that peolpe should lock water so peolpe don't use it for dumu things like throwing water at each other.Or sometimes locking water is good so the bill dose not come too much. it can also be bad because some peolpe can be deinking less water. In some fevivals they use too much water like Holi in India they Pollute the water too much with color and water. There is a river in india which is very Pollute there is all rubish in it.
i think it is a good idea to lock the water for some time!

  22. From reading the website, water can be used in many ways:
    Drinking
    washing
    bathing
    showering
    giving flower water
    Toilet

By reading this website, people conserve water by saving up water. For example: Don't leave the tape on when washing dishes, Checking if there are leaks or pools in your lumps, etc. I think that this website is very interesting, if everyone in the world read this maybe they will save the water.

I think that we should lock the water but not everytime. It can only be use when that person needs water. I suggest this because if we don't lock the water, some of the people will waste it and maybe the water is going to decriese more!

  23. After reading the website I choose droughts. In drought it is so hard to get water. It is hard to get water in the city that are in middle of the country. The drought affects so many things like us (human’s), plants, animals so all living thing need water. If these living things don’t get water thing things can die by get dehydrated. Or if these things drink dirty water they can get different types of illnesses. They can be more droughts because of global warming. That is why went there is less water they should try to save as much water as you can.
