    1. This interview with my mother tells me that the people lived differently because of the different rules and what objects they used to have fun, for example she read books, played Atari and watched movies. I liked doing this because I thought it was a great way to bond and connect with my mother.
    2. Two similarities for the way we lived are:
-Literature and art was very fashionable and is appreciated as much as it is now, books and music especially. My mother and her family liked historic non-fiction books mostly. My mother listens to a singer named Prince then and even now; he is famous for many of his albums.
-Gaming consoles were very famous at that time; one of the few gaming consoles that my mother used was the Atari. The Atari had a joy stick and the interface wasn’t laid out properly. The main idea of the console is similar to the ones present now.
    3. Three differences from the way we lived:
-My mother and the community she lived in were very religious, they went to church every Sabbath and prayed and sang, they also read verses from the bible. For me I moved place to place and didn’t go to church very often, now my mother doesn’t go to church now because of the same reason as me.
-The teachers in my mother’s school were strict but she thought some were very nice. In that time the teachers didn’t care if you learnt or not, but now in my school my teachers are very nice and caring, they emphasize our safety and our knowledge.
-The language in school that we were required to learn has changed a lot over time, when my mother I was in high-school and college she learnt how to speak Japanese from different techniques used by the teacher, for example sometimes the teacher would call his boss by video communication systems and the students would converse with him in Japanese.

1.What does your interview tell you about your parent's or guardian's civilization when they were young?
During the interview with my dad I learnt a lot about his civilization and how different things around him were when he was young compared to things around me right now EG the rules his parents made back then was less specific then it was now.

2.When you compare your life with your parent's choose two things that have remained the same and three things that are different.
Two things that have remained the same are:
    1. Writing
We both enjoy writing in pens rather than pencils and our handwriting is really bad-- sometimes the teachers can't tell what we wrote!
    2. Culture
My dad loved to listen to rock music when he was young and I love listening to rock music!

Three things that have changed/ different
    1. Culture/ Literature
When my dad was young he read his textbooks and a lot of the books the school had provided him but right now I buy the books I want to read and I read them.
    2. Technology
He got his first phone was he was in his forties and it was as large as a waterbottle whereas I got my first phone was I was about nine and it was a quater of his first phone's size.
    3. Community
He knew everyone in his neighborhood community and he could go out and take a walk whenever he want because it was very safe back then compared to the present where I am not allowed to go out of my house without permission because it is not safe and I do not know anyone else in my community apart from my family.

  4. When I interview my dad I learned that in his time, there was more little rules and Thailand was a lot friendlier. There wasn't a lot of stealing back in his time but now a lot of things are being stolen.

The 2 things that my dad and I have in common are religion because we both celebrate birthday and new year so almost every year, my family and my mom's friend would go to chinese restuarant to have dinner and they would give us red envelope that contains money. And also Government laws too because if a kid steal food or merchandise from a store then we wouldn't go to prison instead the police officer will contact our parents and talk about the kid's problem.

The 3 different things about my dad and I are social structure, technologie and art. I say social structure because in my dad's family, my grandma is the boss in his family because she takes care of the kids and organize things. However in my family, my dad is the boss because he pays for almost everything and sometime organize trips to other country. And technologie because in his time there wasn't WII or PSP. In my dad's time color TV was very popular and not much people in his neighborhood has color TV so everyday from 6pm-9pm, his neighbor would come to watch thai drama or soccer match. And also art because in his time, a band called Grand X was really popular in his time. For me Green Day, Black Eye pea and Beyonce is very popular.

I think my life is better than my dad's becuase it was probably really hard to communicate to other because not all people have phones and email wasn't invented so they had to write a letter to people or meet each other face to face to communicate. I have email so I can send my friend email or chat with them on facebook to tell them important things. But normally I call them because it's easier than looking for then online.

  5. 1.Due to inquiry, I can tell that my grandmother’s civilization was quite different to mine when she was young. For example, it was a law that students must be off the streets, out of the cafĂ©’s and at home by 22:00. They had to keep their hygiene levels satisfactory in front of people. We, on the other hand, don’t have a certain time to be off the streets, nor is it necessary to keep our hygienic levels satisfactory in front of people.
I also think that some of the 7 features of civilization have stayed the same and some have changed.

    2. I would say 2 things that have remained the same from my grandmother’s and my civilization are Religion and the large communities.
Religion hasn’t changed. The gods people believed in are the same, people still go to church on Sundays, and the religious holidays are the same. People still practice different religions and missionaries are doing the same thing. Not all people practiced religion then and some people don’t practice religion now. For example when my grandmother was young she didn’t go to church because her parents didn’t believe in it. Now 50 years later, there are still people like me who aren’t religious people and don’t practice religion.
In large communities, most things are still the same. For example you have to respect people older than you and you have to respect people that are in higher position than you, just like students should respect teachers. You can also rely on each other to help out. For example if you are having trouble, if you asked a friend, they would help you. Or if you got injured and a member of the community walked by, you could rely on them to help you.

    1. Three things that have changed from my grandmother’s civilization are laws, styles of writing and technology.
Laws have changed because the government changes all the time and so do their requirement for the country. For example when my grandmother was young, it was a very important law to keep the environment clean and recycle, otherwise if you got caught, you would get in trouble. Now a-days people litter all the time and even though it is not good for the environment, people still pollute the environment and many people don’t recycle.

The style of writing has also changed because since words in languages are changing, the writing must change along with the words. For example it is much easier to express yourself clearly using less words, than it was back then. Computer language is also being used in writing more, so now people use abbreviations and even write in IM (instant messaging). Words from different languages are finding their way into other languages so the style of writing would change along with the different words.

Technology has had a huge impact on society and is improving rapidly. For example when my grandmother was a teenager, the new ‘cool’ thing was to go to the cinema and the new invention was the television. Now the new ‘cool’ thing is to own an I-pod and the new invention is the X-Box 360 motion sensor. So things have obviously changed. Technology has also changed because now people use it for different things. It is no longer used for only recreational activities and communication but also for learning devices and even maybe for weapons.

So that is how I would say that my life and civilization is different to my grandmothers.

  6. 1. This Interview has taught me a lot about my mum and how she lived when she was younger. This interview has also taught me how different our lives were such as when my mum was little if she was naughty she would get the strap, but I just get a stern yell and have to go up to my room and my mum had to were matching clothes with her sisters. I think this has been a great chance to get to know my mum and really start to under stand how my mother was treated.
    2. The two things I have in common with my mum would be community and religion…
Community because we both grow up in a small community which was close to the beach but suffered from forest fires and drought all year round. I also choose community because we both grow up in Australia and we both had a snakes every where in our back yard.
Religion because we both follow the same religion and those religions traditions such as on Christmas opening our presents on Christmas eve, going to church that night and many more.
    3. The three things that have changed from my mum’s civilization to mine would be the technology, religion and the writing for example the technology level from mine to my mums is a lot as she had hardly even herd what a computer was but I have 1 in my bedroom also my mum didn’t have 1 air conditioner in her house and I have 10 in my house.
Religion has become much less strict as my mum had to go to church every Sunday and get beaten for talking while the pasta was speaking. It has also become less strict in the way of people becoming less and less religious as they have been swearing more and praying less.
Writing because my mum writing was brilliant unlike mine and this is mainly because people are starting to write less and type more. My mum has also never learnt to type because only people how were going to write with type writers would need to type.

This is the answer to question 1:
I interviewed my mom and I learnt many things about her, and the wonderful civilization she lived in. I learnt what her community was like and how it relates to her. She told me what her favorite technology was (T.V). She told me how she helped her family and told me some laws they had. I learnt what kind of art expressions they used and some more about my religion. I have gained a lot of knowledge on her civilization so I’m able to see the differences and similarities between her civilization and mine.
Now I can tell you 3 differences and 2 similarities. First about her civilization and then about my civilization
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is the answer to question 2:
    Olden times
    Community:-
The education was separate genders and the schools were not very expensive. They also used to cycle to schools. The housing had very few multi-storied building and small bungalows. The city she lived in was very small at that time and the population was incredibly low. The families were usually nuclear and not joint.
    Government & laws
    Some rules were:-
    1) Education almost everywhere was done by the government.
    2) Public school and colleges were run by the government money.
    3) There were very few choices to choose from.
    4) The education of girls was free.
    Technology
My mom’s favorite latest technology was the T.V. She loved it because it was the first time they used one. She felt it was a very important type of entertaining device. They had only one channel to watch which had many shows. The T.Vs were also only black and white with limited sizes.
    Modern times:-
    Community
The schools are not as cheap depending on which school. Now they do not cycle much. The city has become huge and so has the population. They also have many multi-storied buildings now. People mostly live in nuclear families. Now the schools have co-education.
    Government & laws
    Now:-
    1) There are many private schools.
    2) The government paid schools has decreased a lot.
    3) Now you have many choices to choose from.
    4) Now the girl’s education is not free plus there is co-education.
    Technology
Now the T.V has changed a lot. They are able to have multiple channels. Depending on the T.V you can play games and plug in extra devices. The T.Vs are also available in HD and they are color T.Vs. You can get the T.V in multiple sizes.
    Now some similarities are:-
    1) Most of the tools that we use nowadays are the same from the tools that they used to use back then. Some of the tools are paintbrush, oil pastels, paint, pencils, glue, scissors, tape and many more.
    2) My mom thinks that the most important people in her family are her mom and dad because they helped her with all of her work and they raised her. I feel the same way that the most important people in my family are my parents as they are there to guide you for their whole life.

  8. 1) When I interveiw my dad, I learn how different the technology and communities were back then compared to now. For example; the internet back then wasn't anything like now and the phones are very different in size.

    2)Two things that are the same;
    Writing
    - My dad also learnt and practice his writing using hand writing books just like I did when I started writing.
    Technology
    - There were phones and computers just like now execpt phones have gotten a lot smaller.

    3) Three things that are different;
    Religion
    - My dad goes to the church every month on Sunday for a bible reading on a daily basis while my family only goes when there is a special event
    Art and Architecture
    - Buildings back when my dad was a kid was made out of bricks or wood while buildings now are made out of concrete and there are a very small amount of brick buildings or wood buildings left
    Technology
    - Phone nowadays are smaller, thinner and faster than the telephones that were there back then.

  9. Jojo...
1)when I interviewed my dad i found out that, when my dad was still a kid there wasn't much technology which help people alot and they were just only like items which have been just developed abit, like the tv, before it was a big fat tv which is black and white.

2)2 things which have remained the same and 3 things which are different...
    Similiarities...
    1.Religion
My dad goes to the temple about twice a week, to pay respect to our religion and so we now keep on going there twice a week.
    2. Techonology
At my dad's old house he owns a tv which is black and white and now we also own other tv, but more advanced technology.
    Differents...
    1. Writing
My dad and I both started on the same language which is thai, even though my grandparents where chinese. But still my dad sooner understand chinese, but I dont understand Chinese.
    2. Religion
Both in my dad and I childhood there is alot of people from different religion. But in my childhood there was more religions.
    3. Technology
When my dad was little he said that a mobile is large, but now it have developed into a smaller ones, which also have alot more features.

    Large Community Groups:
My dad lived in Shimane Prefecture which is in the country side of Japan. The air is clean and the sky is blue. There were many animals, big mountains and big rivers. He especially liked observing the movements of the heavenly bodies and the ecology of fish. In the community everyone enjoyed doing sports, chorus, presenting a performance, sports day and festivals. The number of population in this place is very low so everyone is like a family.

    Organized Government and Laws:
When you are drunk driving there is a very heavy penalty. And as a penalty you have to pay fines and your license will be invalid. On the other hand there was no restaurant near from dad’s house and no taxi due to the country town so when my dad drinks alcohol at a restaurant he needs to walk a long distance so drunk driving was a big event for my dad.
You have to be 6years old to go to Elementary school. Elementary and Secondary school was a Compulsory education so parents must let children go to school to study. You have to wear a school uniform while at school; you must go to school by 8:30 and must do the programs given at school.

    Organized Religion:
Most of the Japanese people are Buddhism. But there is no restriction from the religion. For most people ancestors of the family is more for people. Because Japanese people think that ancestors will protect us. In Japan there is no serious religion I mentioned about. On the other hand there are several strict religions in the world. And he would like to learn more about the culture and the restrictions about religions.

    Writing:
He learned Kanji as art which is called Calligraphy. Calligraphy comes from China and many Japanese students love two colors art of black charcoal and white paper. In olden days there were writing in paper but on now days we use Microsoft word to write and the Microsoft word changes the mistakes for us so everyone is not good at writing or spelling.

    Culture:
My dad liked doing baseball and track and field because he wanted to improve his physical and mental. And ay home he usually reads and studies to learn theory, culture and the history. Also he watched T.V to know what is happening in the world.

    Social Structure:
The most important person in the community was the fish shop because his home town is in the mountain side so there is many mountain products, however it is not easy to get sea products. So Ishida the owner of the fish shop starts to bring back many seafood and happiness every morning from the sea side. There is no formal structure but all families and people gather together naturally to help each other and enjoy forever

    Technology:
When my dad was young the coolest invention for him was the microwave because you can warm food without heat, Video because he can watch favorite news and movies all the times. And also the space shuttle because a plane can have a trip on Space.
He mostly watched T.V because the timeline of his growth is the same as when T.V developed. T.V changed from moneral to color and many channels were made with clear pictures. People were born in 1960s-1970s (same as my dad’s age) so we call it T.V generation.

  11. 1)In this interview I learnt alot about my parents civilization when they were young and how these laws and civilization changed over time.

    2)Differents

    WRITING
Back then my parents write in different instruments than we use now. They use pencils when they were young but when they are our age they use fountanin pens and feather quilt pen while we use markers, pens or even computers. I think that we are lucky to not have to use ink pen because it can end up pretty messy and we are also lucky to be able to have access to computers beacuse not only do they help with the granmar, they give us good writing prints.

    COMMUNITY
Me and my dad's hang out place in the community is different. My dad likes to hang out in the ice-cream palor with his family/friends but my hang out place is usually at my friends house in the neighbourhood.

    TECHNOLOGY
Technology changed over time alot, they improve new technologies to make it more convinient and my parents have different inventions that are "cool." In those days my dad have walkmans as a " entertainment technology" but now computers, Nintendo games (game boys, DS, WII, etc)are called entertainment. My dad remembers a TV as a cool invention when he was young because back then not many people have TV's but today, TV is not a cool invention to me anymore. I think smart boards are a cool invention to me because it is amzing that people can invent a invention that can use hand touch to select things.

    3)Similarities

    CULTURE
Culture fall under lots of things which includes ART, ARCHITECTURE and LITERATURE. Art invoves music too. When my parents were my age my parents also play musical instruments. I play a piano now and my parents play the piano then.

    SOCIAL STRUCTURES
Me and my parents have similar things in social structures. In my community and my parent's community the most important person in the community for us are our parents. They are important to us and we love them alot. The other similaritie is our parents making the rules in our house hold.

    GOURNMENT AND LAWS
Me and my dad have 1 similar thing in "Laws" are breaking them. Me and my dad might have broken different laws but they are still "Laws." The law that my dad broke is sleeping later than the time limit given. I broke a lot of laws that my parents made but they all fall under the catogory of "Guinea pigs." My parents doesn't allow me to hold the guinea pig near my face, not on the sofa, not putting it on dining tables, not playing with it while I'm doing work and lots more. I just reviled all my secrets!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  12. When I interviewed my Grandparents, I realized that there life was a lot harder than mine is now because when they were 5 and 7, Word War 2 started and carried on for another six years. I also realized that there school life was very, very strict unlike mine which is less strict and I would say more fun.
There are three things that are different from my life and theirs.
Firstly there is communication; my grandparents did not have a phone in the house so they had to walk to the post office to use the public pay phone. I, on the other hand, have a mobile phone, a house phone and a computer with internet connection. Having to go outside to use a public phone to call my friends would be tiring, expensive and inconvenient.
Secondly, during World War 2 food was scarce and rationed. People had to queue with their “ration slips” to get the basic food. Their diet was not very healthy because you couldn’t get fresh fruit or vegetables. It is quite hard to believe that my Grandparents still enjoy “Bread and Dripping (dripping is meat fat!!).”
Lastly, School life was very different. They had ink wells on their desks and they had to dip their ink pens into the ink to do their school work.
Schools were very, very strict and they used a cane on naughty children and if you didn’t sit up straight, a teacher would come and put a ruler down your back to stop you from slouching.
If you did anything naughty like talking in class and passing notes you would have to put your hand out on the table and the teacher would whack your knuckles with a wooden ruler.
It is now illegal to strike a child with a cane or a ruler.
My Grandparents went to a free, state school in Sheffield, where as I go to an international school in Bangkok, Thailand.
Two things that have remained the same are our communities and religion/celebrations.
Our communities are/were similar because we both live (d) in polluted cities but the shapes of the buildings and houses have changed. We both have a democratic government and a royal family. We both have a police force and a school near by.
Religion hasn’t changed but maybe the way we practice it has. My Grandparents went to “Sunday School” every Sunday with out any real choice. My parents have the same religion as my Grandparents but they don’t go to church. On the other hand, we both celebrate “Christmas” which most people around the world do.
By the time World War 2 had ended my Grandmother was 13 years old and my Grandfather was 11years old. Both Grandparents were evacuated on the day England declared War, which meant that their childhood was filled with hardship.

  13. 1. My interview shows that some things changed, and some stayed the same. It tells me that my mom lived in a family of ten and lived in an old wooden house. Behind the house there was a forest. She didn’t live in a very big city. They went to a school and had to go to school. They weren’t poor or rich. She had some toys but not as many as people do now because there where so many kids to take care of. She went to church a lot and her family was very religious. She had almost every electric thing we have now. She had a good family and has an average civilization.

    2. Me and my mom’s civilization where mostly the same and also different. We both had to go to school and we both did. We both had T.V. but I get to watch more than when my mom was little. She would usually get the chance to watch it when her dad was around. But what was different was that she lived in a small town and I live in a big city. She went to church way more than I do and I don’t go so often. Back when she was young you could get a license at the age of 16 now you have to be 18 to get one. Her and my civilization are different and the same. The differences can give me a small idea of what my future may be.

I haved interview my parents about their civilization at about their young ages which made me see the changes and the similarties in now and the past.

Two similarties that has'nt changed was the celebrations whiched has'nt changed at all because their was still celebrations that that time they usllay celebrate in the past. The rules were still the same since the rule was created. The rules were still used too now a days

    Three things that has changed
Community has changed alot because the population was first about 1 milliom people but then it incresed to 3 million almost to 4 million. Technology has changed alot too by the telephones that they were very big and slow to use if compare to today it would be small handy to use or easy to use and fast. In the past thier was'nt even a mircowave to use. Culture has changed too movies in that time that were popular for teenagers was James 15 but now the popular movies were New moon, OO7 and many more fun movies.

Interviewing my parents made me knew alot more in their civilization when they were young like us. It was interesting to interview our parents and fun.

    Interview with my dad

I the past few days I have interviewed my dad to find out about his civilization and compare it to mine. My interview with my dad tells me that, when he was my age he had civilization which was not so advanced with technology. This tells me that the civilization I lived in compared to the civilization my dad lived in was a very advanced and that we are very lucky to have a civilization such as this one. Now that I have a pretty good knowledge of my dad’s civilization, I am going to write to you 2 things which are the same and 3 things which are different.

2 things which are the same:

    • Culture

Culture has stayed the same in many ways. My dad had experiences of all the different types of cultures in India and so did I. My dad and I believed in cultures like praying to god everyday and to serve others. On occasions of festivals like Diwali and Holi there are ceremonies like Laxshmi puja and Navaratri, these festivals and ceremonies did not change.

    • Government and laws

3 Main categories of laws, there were the criminal laws, civil laws and regulatory laws. The criminal laws were implemented by the police, the civil laws were implemented by the civil administration and the regulatory laws were implemented by the regulatory authorities. The central laws were made by the parliament, the state laws were made by the legislative assembly and the local laws were made by the local councils.

    Now for the 3 differences:

    • Technology

Technology was different because at that time all the calculations were done by hand, but now we use a calculator to do them for us. One of the first advanced technologies in that time period was a T.V. Even tough the T.V was in black and white with only one channel, it was a great way to entertain yourself at that time. Now we a color T.V with a variety of different channels. Infrastructures were being built, while we already had a million of them.

    • Writing

My dad didn’t learn how to read and write at school; instead he learned it from his grandpa. I learned how to read and write at a school, with never ending possibilities of education. My dad learned to write with a Basic English text book, while I learned it by mostly using computers. My dad knows many different kinds of languages when I only learned 3. When my dad went to school, he had to learn in a room with a least of 75 students and with no ac. I learn in a room with 20 students and with ac.

    • Communities

My dad lived in a apartment complex with a playground, his house was located in the heart of the city. I lived in a more advanced complex with a pool, a gym and a garden. Back then the schools were separated according to different genders. The neighborhoods around my dad’s apartment complex were mostly houses built with bricks. The neighborhoods around my house were mostly big buildings made with cement.

  16. 1.When I was interviewing my father I learned many things that I imagined and things that I couldn’t. In their life I think it was really hard to live in their life according to the interview I somewhere we cannot communicate by talking. Overall I think we are very lucky to be in this generation. It was really hard for them to do their work, education, even entertainment!! I think it would be really hard to entertain yourself because there were no video games and no colored T.V like in our days. Also I think it would be really hard to work or make a final copy of work. You will have to write it with your best writing and it will be really hard to send school work. It will also be hard to communicate with each other when you’re at home or somewhere you cannot talk or chat with them. I think we’re very lucky and I think our generation is much easier to live, communicate, have fun and excersise.
    2. As I said there weren’t many similarities in mine and my parent’s times. Although one of the things which stayed the same was our religion, OFCOURSE!!! My religion and his are both Hindu. We also respect the religion Buddhism as well. We are part of the same family so we have the same religion. We don’t really go to the same temple anymore because of that it is a pretty far way to go to the temple also there’s a lot of traffic now and then. Also something to do with that the rules and laws since it wasn’t that long of a time that would’ve changed the laws. One of the laws which stayed the same were absolutely No BEEF and that is also part of our religion. Other laws like No drugs, No critical violence without permission are pretty much banned too. We also know pretty much the same languages although I don’t talk Hindi as much as them. I know a little and the rest of the languages I know like English and Thai. I am also having tuitions for Hindi. I and my parents both have the same touch of music. I like Hip/Hop and rock and so does my dad. Some cartoons which my dad use to watch (Japanese Cartoons & Walt Disney) when he was young. I also love to watch them now. Our social structure is pretty much the same except that in my family instead of my grandpa being the leader, now my dad is. As you know He made a new family and that is another reason he’s the leader. But in Thailand we still have the same king even when he was young!

    3. There are a lot of differences between our 2 generations. Things like technology like when my dad was young he never witnessed a T.V. bigger than 20 inches and with color. Now at my house my T.V. is around 47 inches and it has a very good color. My dad also had his first phone when he was around 32 years old and it was really fat, no internet and no games. Although he could call or text it was really hard to use. Now I just got a phone for my 12th birthday and it’s around 1/3 of the size. It can play games, access the internet and even socialize! Also linking to these stuff my dad could hardly ever communicate with his friends when he wasn’t there in person. He had to send a letter which he said took around 1-1 ½ weeks. Also if he were to use the Telephone it was not a direct phone call. He needed to call the operator then the operator would send it to the person who he would like to talk to. He said it was really expensive and really long. If he was to emergency call it would take 2x the price but 2x faster. Not like now a days we can just talk by using the computer and it is free like the Instant Messaging Service and many other socializing applications on the internet. Although the religion is still the same my dad and I just go to the temple like around once a month. Before he said he used to go their every Sunday and days that they were free. Also the community when he was young he said he did not socialize as much and he did not really mix with people really well since he was just staying at home. He said that his community of people were really less like around only 1000+ people. Now our community is full of people from 1 million people and more!!! When he was young he could not use any internet for his studies, he could only use books and he said that sometimes it was really boring. Also his variety of music when he was young was not as much as now… He only used to listen to Blues and Rock while now I listen to a very variety like Hip/Hop, Rap, Pop etc. He said that some parts of the architecture also changed from like, old and concrete more of a new and glassy style. Their town when there were young was not really like a town it was just like a quiet old place with old place with lots of trees. While now it has changed from “not a town” to a “big disasters” city.
As I said so far our 2 generations are really different. I feel really lucky to be born in a very privileged city and privileged family. There were really big differences and if I did not have the technology, the rules the community, the friends, my life would be really messed up .

  18. 1. I have learned a lot about my dad’s civilization from this interview. I have learned that he was born in a big family in Cambodia’s rural area. When he was young there was a war surrounding him and that his family lived in fear. I also understand that technology was very poor in his community. The same community that I used to visit which is now clean and peaceful used to be a dirty and very dangerous place. I also have learned that while something remains unchanged, a lot of things have changed over that period of time.

    2. Two things that are the same:
    a) Religion: I have known that my family believes in Buddhist since my dad was small and that all of us follow and respected it until now.

    b) Writing: Both me and my dad wrote the Cambodian language when we were at school.

    3. There things that are different:
    a) Technology: Back then technology wasn’t as developed as now. There weren’t any mobile phones or computers at all when he was at the age of 4. Then when he was a teenager there were mobile phones but they are so different from now. The phones did not have colors but black and white. They were very big and heavy. There weren’t many cars back then neither. People lived in the cities traveled by motorbike, and bus while people lived in the countryside traveled by motor bikes, bicycles and ox carts.

    b) Community: Our community was also very different from each other. When my dad was young he lived through the Khmer Rouge regime that killed almost 2 millions people including 5 of my relatives. Most of the victims were killed because they were soldiers, educated or because they were accused of stealing something to eat. My dad used to live in the small and dangerous community. He was also not allowed to meet his parents during the day time because all adults had to work very hard in the field far away from the village. He did not have enough food to eat not to mention nutritious and delicious food.

    c) Government and laws: During that time there weren’t any laws at all especially labor law. You could start working as young as you were 12 in any place. Lots of people had to work very hard because they really needed money to survive. You didn’t have to finish grade 12 to be able to find a good job.

  19. During the interview with my mom about her past, I learned many interesting things about my mom's life. For example: Pong, the coin operated game was created during my mom's childhood and also I learnt that my mom's family doesn't really have specific rules of the house.

Also, the things that stayed the same that I found out between the past and nowadays was the social structure. My dad was the head of the family and also my mom's dad (my grandpa) was the head of the family because we both thought that it is a tradition in our families and our dads are mostly in charge. Another similarity compared to the past and nowadays is the community. There are people who sell things and raise money for the poor and the unfortunate. These people mostly create or join charity communities like people nowadays.

I had dicovered many differences between me and my mother compared to the past and nowadays. When my mother was a teenager, the PC was a hit but it had no internet, it had bad graphics,it was slow working and it had small memory space. Only rich people would get it because it cost a lot of money. But compared to my time, more people could get access to the PC. The PC was improved a lot in the past years. Also, nowadays we have more applications and electronics for work and entertainment such as the ipad, the ipod, the iphone and itouch,PSP-Play Station Portable,DS,Xbox and many more electronics. Another thing that I discovered was a difference was writing. My mom's school and my school's writing expectations was a huge difference. My mom's school only accepted neat and nice cursive handwriting which was tough for me. Instead, my school's expectations on handwriting was easier because you can have many styles of handwriting and you don't have to write cursive if you don't want to. Another difference that I had found out was the Religion. In the past, there wasn't any Buddhism websites but now there are loads of results on Buddhism if you type the word "Buddhism"on google - about 11,200,000 results!

Overall, knowing and comparing people from different generations lifestyles is interesting and is a lot of fun. If we didn't know what our parents' lifestyle was like when they were young, we wouldn't experience the fact that we are really lucky to be born in this fortunate generation and family.

1)During the interview with my mom, I realized that the life I am having now is not the one that my dad had. Back then everyone had to write long and difficult words in a sentence. Now in our generation we write short and more simple words in a sentence. It has really changed over time.

2)Two things that are the same:-

a)That his school and our school doesn't force anyone to write specificially cursive or plain.

b)That the laws about murder hasn't changed as it is still the worst thing a person could do.

    3)Three things that are different:-

a)The thing which was the most popular invention as it is no the same generation but it is still different.

b)Back then people weren't so close to being religious but now people are very religious.
c)During that time, some of the handheld games were his favourites in technology but now there are laptops and mobile phones so our generation like those better.

Including everything i have said, it comes back to our different generations and lives. We all now know about our parents lives which makes us aware of how lucky we are to have all these things and be more fortunate to be born in this generation.

  21. 1.What does your interview tell you about your parent's or guardian's civilization when they were young?
During the interview with my dad i leant a lot of things about how his civilisation changed over time. There were lots of difference between his civilisation and mine. The rules, social structures, writing, technology etc has changed a lot.

2.When you compare your life with your parent's choose two things that have remained the same and three things that are different.

    1. The 2 things that remains the same is:

    Religion
The religion from before is still the same like nowadays. There are still 6 religions, the 6 religion is Bhuddhism, Hinduism, Christianity, Isalam, Judaism, and sikhism.

    Technology
Most of the technology has changed alot but there are still some things that remains the same. The technology of the transportations is still the same because in my dads civilisation there is all sorts of transportation for example cars, motercycles, bycycles etc
in my dad's civilisation the cars does not have airconditions yet but nowadays we have air conditions.

    2. 3 things that that changed/ different

    Writing
My dad learns in a Thai school. The school rule is that students in grade 1-3 must use a quill feather pen because it was manditory. Students in grade 4-7 were allowed to use the fountain pen. After grade 7 students were allowed to use the roller pen. Now students from every grade can use what ever they want to use.

    Social Structures
Before when my dad was in school there was a rule that the phisical punishment was allowed in those days. The phisical punishment is to us to the students, sticks were carried by teachers so when the student misbehave the teacher will get the stick and whip them. Now the phisical punishment is banned from every school and is prohibitted by the law.

    Technology
    ex1:Televisions
The televisions before was very thick and big, but now the technology has improved so there is different size of television and is thiner than before.
    ex2: Mobile phones
Before the mobile phone was as big as a Dumb bell and could use as a weapon. The mobile phone has no aplications (features), games, contacts etc the phone can olny be use to call and recieve calls. Since the technology has improved alot there is different size of the mobile phones and the phone has aplications (features), games, contacts, can type, text message, go on to the internet and go on skype, facebook etc...
This shows about how my dad's civilisation changed over time and how things have improved.

  22. 1. From the interview it tells me that my dad’s civilization wasn’t as developed as mine. It shows me that he could go to his friends house with out getting stuck in traffic and just ride on his bike there which shows that there was little car and it was more safe on the road in that time. At his time entertainment was riding his bike with his friends, playing sports on the soi and playing with fighting fish. In that time the most popular cartoon was Mazinger and Red Ants (Super Heroes). After knowing my dad’s civilization I think I am very lucky to be in this civilization.

    2. My dad’s civilization was really different from mine when he was young. His civilization has a positive and a negative if compared to my civilization. The positive part was Bangkok was clean and had grass lands in the middle of Sukhumvit road; it was more natural and had little cars. It was also safe to walk outside because there is no cars driving really fast on the road like now a days and it was safe to ride your bikes on the road. But on the negative side is that there was lots of coups and gunshot sounds making people feel unsafe. It was also hard to communicate because when my dad wanted to call his friends to come hang out with him he had to go to there house and call them face to face but now I can use cell phones or chat online to communicate to my friends. The two things that remained the same were 1. I still share the same king (King Rama 9) and 2. Fighting fish is still being played in this civilization I find it very entertaining when I watch the furious fish fighting for there territory.

    3. The three differences that I cant imagine a world with out it is 1. That there was no device at that time to contact your friend to come play with you and you had to go to there house and ask them or talk to them face to face. 2. The second difference is that at that time there were grass lands in the MIDDEL OF SUKHUMVIT ROAD! And now on Sukhumvit road are millions of cars jammed together. 3. The third difference is that at my dad’s time it was safe to ride to your friend’s house on your bike like if for example if I rode my bike to Kavi’s house I will probably get crashed by a taxi.

  24. mikes new and improved comment

    1. My interview shows that some things changed, and some stayed the same. It tells me that my mom lived in a family of 12 and lived in an old wooden house. Behind the house there was a forest. She didn’t live in a very big city. She lived in a small town. When my mom was young, her and her family new mostly everybody in her community. This tells us that her community was small, and now we don’t know as many people because the community got bigger. Now a day’s people are more mobile, for example this is the 5th country we stayed in, we move around so much we don’t get that much of a chance to get to know other people in the community. They went to a school and had to go to school because of the law. When my mom was young, you could go to bars at the age of 18 and drive at the age 16, but now you can go to bars and drive at the age of 18 and 21. Back then the government thought that teenagers where more responsible, higher expectation of teenagers back then but now we know better. My mom used to write letters (snail mail) a lot because it was the main way to communicate because phone calls where expensive and so she used to write a lot. My mom used to collect leaves because it was fun and she liked to be independent and this she could do on her own. She lived in a family of 12 she had 4 sisters and 5 brothers. Now families are smaller because moms and dads are working and can’t take care of so many kids. Back when my mom was young she didn’t have computers. But now we have computers and she finds them very useful. She had some toys but not as many as people do now because there where so many kids to take care of in the family.

My dad lived in the country side and I am living in the town side so mostly everything is different. For example the town side those not have clean air as the country side and has many factories and businesses. Interviewing my dad was very interesting for me and I learned a lot of differences!

This school program has mostly the same rules as now days which means that over the past years the rules in schools haven’t changed that much.

And at home he usually reads and studies to learn theory, culture and the history. Also he watched T.V to know what is happening in the world. But I read news papers to know what is happening in the world because reading will improve my English and also it has more details then the T.V.

    Social Structure:
The most important person in the community was the fish shop because his home town is in the mountain side so there is many mountain products, however it is not easy to get sea products. So Ishida the owner of the fish shop starts to bring back many seafood and happiness every morning from the sea side. But for Thailand the King is the most important person and everyone is paying respect to the King. There is no formal structure but all families and people gather together naturally to help each other and enjoy forever.

    Technology:
When my dad was young the coolest invention for him was the microwave because you can warm food without heat, Video because he can watch favorite news and movies all the times. And also the space shuttle because a plane can have a trip on Space. This is the same for me which means that these technology are very popular and useful for our day life and to discover new things.
He mostly watched T.V because the timeline of his growth is the same as when T.V developed. T.V changed from moneral to color and many channels were made with clear pictures. People were born in 1960s-1970s (same as my dad’s age) so we call it T.V generation.
