In your reflection please answer the following two questions.
Make sure the Venn diagram provided to help you sort your ideas first. Then write them in your reflection.

1.What does your interview tell you about your parent's or guardian's civilization when they were young.

2.When you compare your life with your parent's choose two things that have remained the same and three things that are different.

29 comments:

  1. 1.When my mom was young she didn't have that much technolgy or all the different stuff we have.

Like computers, they didn't have computers like we do and now just imagine how lucky we are to have these things. T.V for example. We have how many channels, about 70 or 80. But my mom only had 4 channels. No UBC just thai channels 3,5,7,9. Look how lucky we are just to have these things. In the community we have like condominiums and hotels. They only had like storeyed houses.

    2.
    Same things:
1.My mom had messaging and I also have messaging.
    2. The thai alphabet is still the same as today.
    Different things:
1.When she was in school she had to write on paper. We get to write on the computers.
2.When she was a kid there were less than 10 music artists (including bands) in Thailand. Now we have more than 100 music artists.
3.She went to a thai school. I go to a international school.

  2. 1: Some Things in the past were key for human history as certain things affected and produced certain events (usually important) like the vacuum machine, blender, washing & Drying machines and television sets. Technology remained new and the same as it is now (only barely is it the same), Buildings of old may remain, books, stories, religions, beliefs and how the community works may also remain only so much as it was before (in other words renovation to a building, remix of a song, reprinted books, new branches of a religion or beliefs shift)
2: Both myself and my father had a Television Set (in short several machines), we also had buildings that people with religious belief worshipped at (churches) and a final thing that remained the same is that religious belief also remain the same (Christianity)
Things that were different is that I had a computer, I had kitty cat and of course: I have notoriety for several... happenings as well as that I have INTERNET SLANG! (Like XD, :D, D:,
D:<, LOL, GTG among other words similar

  3. They lived in a town with alot of people lives in low level buildings, they write with chalk, they didn't have i-pod but they had walkman, it had the same king as now, it wasn't poluted much comparing to now. Prices of items during that time were cheaper. On the road most people wears thai traditional clothes made by thai silk. They had cars but not as nice as now. During that time they only had hand rowing boats.

Thai people still plays traditional chess from past. They also plays golf which still remains untill now. They had small poor houses but now there are giagantic luxury houses. They used to wear thai silk but not now anymore. They also used to use chalk for writting.

  4. 1. The interview tells me that she might have fun because her friends were really close and they might have played together a lot. I learned that my mom had a different life from me. I can see this as she liked campus music but i like rap and pop music.

    2.
    Arts:
I like chinese adventure books and my mom also likes chinese adventure books.
Technology: My mom wanted a video camera but I wanted a Iphone.

  5. 1. My Mom's civilization was advanced but not as advanced as ours. A lot was the same to our civilization but a lot was different.

  6. 1. They didn't have many things, especially phones, computers, CDs, and other electronics. They played outside a lot, because their friends live close by and they have nothing to do inside. They also lived more in houses than in appartments, and they went to many places like museums.

    2. The same things are: My mom's family wasn't religious, and now mine isn't either. Also, we did the same things in art in the school, which is looking at famous artists and drawing pictures following their techniques.
    Different Things:
    1. My mom and dad used to play outside more than inside, and I play more inside than outside.
    2. We did the same thing in art, which is looking at famous artists and then drawing paintings, following their techniques.
    3. Things became laws later. In Germany it is now a law that you have to drive with a seatbelt. Earlier when my parents were alive, it wasn't.

  7. Well..... It tells me that there are so many different things from their lives to mine but some were the same. From this task i think i got to know more about the things i never knew from the past.

Some of the things that was the same was that the most important people in thailand were the royal family and still are. Also that the poor people went to a different school than rich people. Some things that was different was that our technology is so much more advanced than theirs, also that the religion was taken more seriously then now. The last thing was that people use to also use hand languages like chat!!

I learnd soo many new thing in this task!

  8. 1. The interview told me a few things about mey dad's civilization. Things which fits into the 7 features; the interview taught me how children use to play with their neighbors in the past, how new words had been invented - shortened from words or from English. What kind of music people listen to in Thailand back then, and how people live with their family with lots of family members. And how technology developed very rapidly!!!

    2. From the interview, there're lots of changes that I've noticed, but there're also some similarity, some things that still remain the same or are similar. Things like the writing, there may be many new words like I've said above but in the formal writing is remain similar or at least very similar. And people still listen to music over time. The differences are that the connections between the people in a neighborhood aren't as strong than before, after marriage, many people leave their parents to live with their own family, and some laws had been canceled; prime ministers doesn't have the right to punish people by just their own opinion anymore!!

  9. My interview tells me that my mum's civilization when she was young is quite very different from mine's, because nowaday it is much more advance then before. The world that we are living in today is very colorful and cheerful, and there are a lot of cool and better inventions. School was way harder and a lot more boring/dull, today we have a lot of freedom and have fun while learning.

One of the things that have remained the same for my mum and I is that we enjoy a life with computers and that we love reading books! The three things that are different is that the events nowadays are for everyone while before they were only for high school students, the laws today have a lot more to do with the environment then before and the fact that school is funner and more enjoyable then before.

  10. The interview told me about my dad's life because i was able to know what environment he was surrounded by. Also what he had when he was young. Now i am able to compare my life with his life.

The two things that remained the same is 1, probably the religion because they didn't create any new religions lately. The second thing is probably the communication language. For example the letters/characters of thai, english and most of the other countries are the same in both generation. But now they're more creative by creating shortcuts like "LOL", "BRB" GTG and stuff.

  11. I interview my Grandmother, "Tuan Chai" about her life when sha was a kid.

    1. In this task, I interview my Grand mother, she lived a a small district called "Mae sarieng" in a province called "Mae hongson" at the northern part of Thailand. My Grandma lived in a small village which had no electricity, no lights, but it's a very nice and warm community. My interview tell me many thing about people's life in the past. It tells me the about differences of people's life in the past and in present through my Grandma's story. It shows me many things about the seven features of a civilization in the past such as the community that everyone in the village know each other very well, different from now that maybe we don't even know the house next to our house. From this task, I know that everything will keep changing depends on humans, nature and our lifestyle and nothing will be the same forever and we can't tell which one is the best because even in the past, there were no electricity, no televisions, no different kinds of technologies, but people felt better living in that community.

    2
The first thing that are similar to my life and my grandma's life is how our parents teach us. Both of our parents think buddhism is a very important thing. They taught us about to pay respect to our parents, to teachers, make merits and we both learned to remember all the prayers so both of us can memorize prayers.
The second thing is the way our civilization choose a leader. Both our civilazation choose a leader using an election way. We think its a very good thing because we can choose good people to develop our village. The leaders are really reliable.
Things that are different are technologies. In my civilization there is many technologies, but my Grandma'e civilization is veryfar from it.
The next thing is about our community. My Grandma's community was very warm. Every one know each other, opposite to mine that everyone has a very rush lifestyle and we don't even know our neighbors
The last thing is educationan, we go to school much more earlier than in the past, because of the money and the law that people were poor so hey needed to help their families work.

  13. The interview told me that my mom when outside alot and had some similar part. Like we both like to listen Michel Jackson's song. We like to play spots and games. My mom lived in a norman place with some big building like Tokyo tower. There were CD's but the CD players were big and difficlet to use. My mom liked to play basket ball. The my mom liked the president of Japan when she was little. My mom had a walkman. Her frist job as to work in a fitness clube.

There are still CD right now but nowdays we are changing to a new type of CD called blue ray. Tokyo tower is still a big tower to me but there is a new tower called Burj Dubai in Dubai and it is going to be 1000m long. Me and my mom likes sports and game. My mom has a walkman but I have a Ipod. We know that nowdays we have technology and still have the same thing too.

This interview told me that my mum was very sporty and loved the out doors.

The two things that were the same with me and my mum were that we loved sports we both like the same music(Pop)

The two things that are not the same with me and my mum is that in school I don't use ink pens and I rarely go to church like my mum did.

  15. I interviewed my mum who lived in Hong Kong. I learnt that there were more differences than similarities. I also learnt that the technology now is way better than before (in my opinion). But in a way, it's kind of better to live in the past because life was simpler so things weren't as stressful or confusing. Also, there wasn't as much violence back then.

    Differences:
My mum had a black and white TV whereas I have a colour TV. My mum used to prefer the black and white movies to the colour movies (because of all the violence). I have a totally opposite opinion and whenever I to MGM or TCM, I change the channel straight away without even looking at what's on. My mum had about 4 channels on TV and I have about 150 (but most I don't watch).
My mum went to separate schools for elementary and secondary but I go to the same school. Her elementary school was a Christian girl's school but mine is an international coed school. When my mum moved to a secondary school, she went to a coed as well. She said that her school bag only contained 1 pencil, 1 eraser, 1 ruler and textbooks. They were hand carried (like a businessman's bag). My mum said that the teachers were very strict back then. I'm pretty glad to go to school like how I do.
My mum was very Christian but I'm not really religious anymore. My mum went to Sunday church with her grandma. She stopped being religious when she married my dad because he's Buddhist. We still celebrate some Christian and Buddhist festivals but not very often.

    Similarities:
My mum and I both live in an apartment building. I've stayed in her apartment when I went to Hong Kong and it's actually in quite good condition, even though it's old. They both have two elevators, is quite tall (20 storeys and 30 storeys) and there are two units on each floor.
Hong Kong and Thailand are both very populated. Both countries also have great tourist attractions. They both have their local people but also expats.

  16. This task have revealed much about not only the life of my grandfather, but all the lives of the people that stayed with and around him (which numbered to only a mere few). It shows that the changes between now and then are colossal, no matter where you look.

Some examples of the drastic change include the T.V, the landscape, and crime.

The T.V.-although it is still a television- has evolved so much that those paper thin screens found today are quite different from its bulky ancestors.

From the interview with my grandfather, I have learned that what used to be his childhood home and fields is now bustling with mansions of the rich and wealthy. A closer-to-home example would be Bangkok itself: When my grandfather first arrived here 46 years ago, this city we live in was a mere sapling. The relatively short period between now and then have allowed many changes.

A example specifically mention by my grandfather was the crime. Murder was basically unheard of. Those occurrences were headline news. Later, as time progressed, the homicides and other incidents gradually increased, until the only indication of the existence of such acts on the newspaper was only statistics on a sidebar.

Not everything has changed since my grandfather's youth. Here are two points showing similarities that remain and survived through all those years:

The first is language and laws. Little change is apparent between the years. For language, you definitely need to travel back more than a 40 years to encounter a noticeable change. Laws also seem more or less unaltered.

Another survivor includes important landmarks and heritages. They have avoid the tide of change and survived the ages, sometimes from times even older than my grandfather's birth, or his grandfather before him. Many of these landmarks have been preserved by humans, yet are threatened by its very saviors (or at least, other homo sapiens).

To conclude this short blog. I should point out another slight similarity that I predict will not last that long. This is the fact that we still call a television a television; a car a car; or sword a sword. That indicates that most household objects still contain a little memoir of those historic days prior to the present. However, I doubt that those fragile words will survive the tsunami of time. Soon, we may be watch holovision, driving repulsorlift cars, and even clashing with lightsabers. Who knows what the future will hold for our generation and the generations to comes.

This task got me thinking more about the past and future than now. The answers from my mom told me and made me think the setting in 20th century precisely. I also found out that me and my moms generation had many differences and some similarities and that each one of the generation were good nor bad or wrong and right. This got me thinking about what I can tell my children or grand children in the next generation. These are most of examples from my moms generation of the 7 elements of a civilization than I will compare and write the similarities.

    Community Groups
My mom grew up in a city but she had a completly different life like me. Well of course she had different friends and different things she did with them. She collected posters, read magazines and wrote and exchanged diaries with her friend.
As for me I also grew up in a city but did completly different things and had different friends. As what I did with my friends were Nerf war, MSN (Chatting), Baseball and soccer. As I noticed that my moms life was more social and I feel that some inventions has kept social conversation and socially playing with others have kept us away like the internet and computer/video games.

    Organized Government and Law
When my mom was 10 the Liberal Democratic party was in charge but now in my generation The Democratic Party of Japan is in charge. This shows that peoples opinion about politics have changed since my moms generation. Another big change the government made in my moms generation was that consumption taxes were made. We still have consumption taxes here.

    Organized Religion
My mom is Christian and I too. She went to Church every Sunday when she was young like I do. I think my mom and dad a great job to keep that custom going on and that I can pass that custom on to the next generation.

    Writing
When my mom went middle school the teacher wrote on a black board and wrote with chalk. Now here we have white boards and write with markers and we have smart boards and write with stylisis. This show that our generation is more high tech.

    Culture
When my mom was 10 a famous pop star was Olivia Newton - John. When I was 10 a famous pop star was Lady Gaga. When my mom was 10 famous type of art was pop art in my generation its photography. All 4 answers a completely different answers but it shows that music and art was popular in both generations.

    Social Structures
As when my mom was young Japan there was only 2 classes middle and rich , now in thailand there are tons because of the economic situation. As still people have equal rights and freedom which jobs they want but now because of the economic situation people dont get jobs the wanted. It shows that in my moms generation the economic was more stable.

    Technology
My mom first used the internet when she was 19 and a lap top 20.
I used the internet and laptop when I was 5 to 6. I think that our world is high tech but this could be reasons why we dont be more social like my moms generation.

In summary of my Blog post I believe that both generation are great but my moms generation was more social and healthy and our generation high tech. I hop I could be interviewed by the next generation.

  18. continuing from my last comment,

The three things that are different from me and my dads life is that, 1, he didn't have laptops that would work this fast and light, because he told me that when he was young, computers would weigh SO much, and they would work so slow. Sometimes i get mad because my laptop gets really slow, but when i think about what people used back then and how slow they were, i suddenly feel better :)
2, the environment i'm surrounded by. When my dad was young he said that there were no traffic, there were a lot of trees. Which now a days, it's not like that.
3, The art and stuff. People these days listen to a different kind of music then people back then. Also with music, like the piano songs, it's different with the piano style songs back then.

  19. 1. When my grandma was young it was different from my life like cars or other technology which is very different. But there are good things in her life, she gets lots of freedom because parent those day trust there child more than now and that time there were space. By saying space I mean the city was still small and there are very little pollution. When I look back I just know that oh our my life is not bad at all.

    2. a. Two things which remains the same is 1. people still listen music although its through ipods or radio people still listen to music. 2. Good friend are still needed becasue they are the one who cheers you up and sometime help you in different things which remain the same.

    b. Three things which are different are 1. Cars that time were small and there aren't AC in the car which I think will be pretty hot. 2. Houses are different those day it was so hot the house must be hollow and high above ground, these day it could be any height because there AC. 3. The president change over time some people like them and some not. These are different things me and my grandma had.

  20. The interview told me my mothers life syle was simple and easy with no computer or i pods. Even though my mom didn't have games like PSP or I-Phone games she still did enjoy her life time by reading books or play games around the buildings. This interview also tells me how people lived in the time of 1970. The civalization weared normal plain clothes without much drawings or design. My mother also told me that having one air condition in one room is already very rich during that time.Having a Tv was also considering rich during that period of time. They had TV but only black and white for the screen. The prices of food and items were cheaper comparing to now adays. The interview also showed how big was the houses during that time. My mom's family 5 person lived in a two bedroom house which was big to other peoples.

The things that had remain the same was there was cars during that time but just not as luxury as now adays's car. There was also telephone but just more heaveir and bigger. The things that had changed was there were Pager during that but now it is used as a appllication like MSN on phones or computer. The second one is that during the 1970 there was no such a thing called computer. My mother didn't had a chance to use a computer untill she was in colage. Even if she was in colage the computers were giagantic and slow not as good as nows. The new thing is also the i-pods. Even in the 1980's there were only walkman which only uses tape and sounds bad. Now Ipod could watch movies and listen to songs with brining a bunch of casset tapes around with you. This interview tought me that whenever you are born. You will have fun with the civalization in a different way from past or future.

This Interview has given me a deeper understanding of my moms civilization, since I was a child I was always curious about the past and I kept on asking questions to my mom asking her about her civilization and the past. Because of that I already knew everything about my moms civilization and I was able to answer every question my self but I had still interviewed my mom since that was our task. And I was surprised that I had knew everything about my moms civilization but at the same time I was also learning a lot more, and many more things about the actual civilization, not only my moms past. And now I have a really great understanding about my moms past civilization and about the country that my mom lived in.
This is all what I had learned about the civilization which my mom was living in.
    Community:
This was something new, which I had learnt about. My mom had told me in the interview that her community was very friendly, helpful and kind. She said that they were very social people who communicated a lot. Everyone knew each other. Now days it is not really like that anymore. From my opinion, people are not that social anymore and people prefer to stay in their friend groups but at the same time I also agree that some people also are very friendly. At the area, which my mom used to live in, were many bungalows with a small garden/lawn. Every house had about three to four bedrooms and it was an enclosed colony. I think that where my mom used to live might be a bit more advanced because I think that this is somewhat like houses in Bangkok. Most of the houses are apartments but in the areas where there are houses, it is pretty similar to my mom’s colony. Another thing, which my mom said about her community, was very similar to mine. She said that every evening after homework she used to go and play with her friends. That is even what I do. So after all I think that my mom’s community is very similar to mine and she used to live in an advanced area.
    Government & Laws:
When I was asking the questions for this topic I was very surprised when I got the answers. My questions were asking that what were the laws and how hard it was to follow them. From my point of view I thought that the past life was pretty hard to live to I had expected to hear many stories but I had just got one simple answer that was “life was very easy and comfortable for me”. I was very surprised and then I had also asked my dad about his opinion about the laws and he had given me the exactly same answer “life was very easy and comfortable for me”. Now I have changed my point of view on the laws in the past. I think that now days have more laws then my mom’s civilization because my mom had said that they were not that many laws like now. I think that it is good that we have more laws now even if some make our life hard sometimes because if we did not have laws the world would not be organized and many bad things could have been happening. Religion:
In my moms civilization there were many people who’s religion was Hinduism. But now there are a lot of different religions everywhere. All people are all different religions. Since I am studying in an international school I am growing up with all different types of people, all from different countries and all different religions. But where my mom grew up there wasn’t really a mix of people most people were only Hindu’s. There also were not as many places to go to and worship like temples, churches or mosques etc; I think that one of the things that has changed the most from my moms civilization to mine was the religion because before religion used to be a very serious thing to everyone but now people have less belief.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Writing:
Writing has also really changed a lot, In my moms civilization people used to only write cursive writing which is now very rare and some people also find it hard and have to learn it, even the people who might be very good in writing in English. My moms civilizations writing style was very complicated, my relatives in India also still write like that and I find it very hard to read so I think this is also one of the major things that have changed from the beginning of where history started till now. At that time writing was also a source of communication but was somewhat used differently. More then sending emails people used to send letters to each other. The people who had to type also had to use typewriters since there were no computers and keyboards at that time.
    Social Structure:
At that time in my mom’s area the leaders used to get chosen by the railway station minister and the leaders used to change every two to three years. The leaders of the country that my mom lived (India) were young and new people. The leaders of India were always trying to work hard towards making the country progress and they made a change to make India a more open economy.
    Culture:
In India the culture was very rich. India was also famous for its art. There was a lot of abstract art and modern art. My mom was inspired by paintings of an Indian artist called MF Hussain. Most people might be thinking that the Taj Mahal is the main architecture of India. But actually it is not, India has a lot of great architecture but they are not world famous like the Taj Mahal. When the first time my mom saw the Taj Mahal she was spell bound. Like her I am sure many people would love seeing the Taj Mahal, but now days there is nothing much to see that will get you as spell bound. Except for technology is the main thing that has great things and attracts people.

Now the last thing, the most advanced thing ever, technology. It is very very advanced. I think in my mom’s generation no one could have even thought of anything like a I phone or I pod or anything. It is just very interesting as it goes through generations and get more advanced. I wish I could go into the past and see what it was like when there was no technology and to see how I feel like when technology starts to get advanced. When my mom was a child the most advanced technology was only appliances like typewriters! There was no Internet either. When technology started to get advanced computers and fax machines came out but still no Internet. I think that the most advanced technology ever is Internet. I really want to know how people used to feel when there was no Internet.
So this is all about my mom’s civilization!
    2 things that are different:
    - The main way to type was using a type writer, now you can use a key board
    - People used to send mails to each other, now people send emails through the internet which a lot more easier
    2 same things
    - The house styles are same, bangkok even has some exactly same houses like my moms house.
    - My mom used to meet her friends every evening and play, even i do!

After all these questions which I have asked my mom since my childhood and after this interview I have still only one question which I have always wondered about. The question is that, how did my mom feel when she went through the major changes in the civilization? How did she feel when such a sudden and big change happened and when all the advanced technology came in the world?

my mom's civilization is quite different to mine, i found many things suprising and something the same as mine, this make me think of the past and how it was i relize that from my mom's civilization to mine has change so much and has gotten worse, and i also relize that we should take care of the world right now and stop pollutions and other negative things here before it gets any worse. Our generation is the only generation that was born and grown up with all the high technology right in front of us, and that i think that we should take good care and responsiblity in our generation more than others.

my mom's community and nieghbor hood is very different to mine, her niegobors were all friends and very close. my mom grew up in the city but in a quite peaceful spot. Her house has 2 story and has a pond, she told me how her friends would come over and feed fishes with her while they talk and talk together. She told me that in her nieghbor hood there wasn't any park or playground so they play in their garden or their pavesment. One of the popular game was "teang tae" this game is that you have to throw a pebble into the ground and hop on one foot to get it, and the another one is "gratai ka deaw" in english it means "rabbit hop" this game is played by you have to hop on one foot and try to catch other people in the game, she tole me that it was so hard and tiring but she always catch everyone.
but now in my civilization we tend to play video games and computer games because it is just more interesting, exciting and we could be someone else and have power in the game. we also now use fish bowls than have ponds.but my nieghbor hood and my mom's is quite similar, we are all quite close and even if our house is at the middle of the city, it is still a very peacful and calm spot, i don't hear any construction or anything here.

  24. my mom's first job was a secretary she answer calls, collect tellecs, make appointment and many more, she said that this job had made her more organize and well prepare. i was quite abit surprise to see how similar the secretary job was then and now.

my mom's civilization important laws was that we have freedom of religion so there won't be conflict, we have to respect the kings and elders and that we have our own constitution which in many countries they don't have.

my mom told me how she was so happy that in thailand she have freedom for religion because she is christian but most people in thailand is buddiest and if there wasn't the freedom for religion then there would be a big conflict going on.
the most popular religion that was in thailand was Buddiest,Christian, Islam and Seek.
now in thailand we have all sorts of different religion mix in thailand and that is ok,
I feel really good in that because my best friends are buddist and i'm christian but we get along just fine so i'm really happy with the rule.

my mom told me how pround she was that Thailand has our own alphabet, in most contries they use the english alphabet and change it a little bit to make them their alphabet but it is still the english alphabet.
She also told me that Thailand has 3 differnt language, nothern thai, north east thai and the city thai, it is not that different because somewords they just put in an accent or change the meaning of the word.
nowadays we still use the Thai alphabet which is has 44 letters, it is quite hard but i still am pround of thai to have our own alphabet.

One of the Famous art in my mom's civilization is the Wat Phra keaw's wall paiting, it tells the story about the Monks and his journey, it is very detailed.
my mom listened to thai classical music because the only thing that could play music is the radio and they only play thai classical music, but my mom actually enjoyed it and find it relaxing, she also enjoyed some disco english songs it is when she gets up and dance with her friends.
i find that very suprising because now we have so much things for music like the ipod, the iphone or the mp3, nearly everything now is connect to music, they even made a channel for music like channel V or MTV. Now we have so much more english music so so so much, like i got a feeling, boom boom pow and much more.

in my mom's civilization the econmy was very good, people got jobs, the thai baht currency was very strong and everything was cheap, example for a noodle was only 2 baht or 1 baht.
I find that very shocking because now, our econmy has fell down so much, everything thing here is so much more expensive like the noodles now are 20 baht or more. Our Thai currency isn't that good people from england or america comes here and find everything so cheap and then the thai people trick them to giving more money.

my mom's first technology was a electric type writer, because my mom's dad has a job of doing it,she always sneak up to play on it and type in silly things she was very excited about it. A computer then was very very very expensive, only the royal family and the goverments could allow to use them or buy them and the computers were huge, about the size of a cupboared.
i find that completly shocking because i have used a phone when i was 8 and i have got my own laptop when i have 10 so i am really shocked how the computers were very expensive.

to conclude this blog ,i feel very lucky and very greatful to have grown in the world of high technology already, and i know we have to keep it like this and improve the world more and more. Even though my mom's civilization might not be as high tech as we are now, but i still think it was a great civilization and a very healthy and safe one too!

  26. 1. My Mom's civilization was advanced but not as advanced as ours. A lot was the same to our civilization but a lot was different. It also told me that my mom was a lot different than me like she liked reading and still does and i don't.

    2. Two thing are the same are the Family relashionships and the same Laws.

Biggest difference is Technology and the other difference things that I thought of are National boundaries and global warming.

  27. Things that are the same.
    1. Many things haven’t changed since my father’s younger days. The ways to transport in my father’s days are mostly yet there, all though the models have changed but the mode is still the same like cars, buses, trains, and planes.
    2. The way we celebrate our occasions are still the same like we both celebrate Indian New Year, Diwali by lighting lamps and by lighting firecrackers.
    Things that are different.
    1. Our communication systems have changed a lot. During my fathers younger days he used to write letters to communicate with his friends and families in other cities whereas now we communicate with e-mails and websites like face book on computers and laptops.
    2. Technology has changed a lot take the TV for example my father used to have a black and white bulky TVs now there are flat, thin and colored TVs. Most of our entertainment is used by the TV like WII, PS2, PS3, X-BOX etc….
    3. During my dad’s days there was the cold war between USA and USSR now the world political situation has changed and India and China have become more powerful.

  28. 1. My parent's civilization was so much different from ours, the television they watch is just plain black and white, what they did for entertainment was sports,no video games. As for communitcation, they did not have e-mails, online chat, they did have phones, but usually only rich people could afford a phone.
2.The three things that different are currecncy, technology and laws. The two things that are same are family relationships and religions.

  29. 1. My dad lived in the small town of Bishop Auckland, County Dorrum, England which was very small and quite unlike Bangkok. They had only 2 restaurants and 10 fish and chip shops.
    2. At N.I.S.T we are offered a diverse selection of languages to learn and at his school they only offered French (it was compulsory). Also at his school the most petty incidents of misbehavior that can be resolved quickly would be reported to the headmaster which is were the students would go.
3.They didnt have computers back then or anything like a nintendo DS or a Wii, yes they had a TV but they had it at the time were TV's switched from black and white to colour so the colour was not like the HQ we get now. They had a radio like some of us get the billboard top 100 list e-mailed to us on a daily basis.

There were a few similarities though...
    1. My dad was part of a group, clique, possé what you choose to call it does not matter. He said that his particular group would listen to "pop" music as in chart music, but "northern soul" was their thing like I gotta Feeling is to us Northern Soul (which is a sub-genre) was in. They were also not the "sporty people" in movies that are cliche with cliques there is always a jock clique and the opposite.
    2. Some people live in houses in bangkok which i find similar to the type they had in B.A in which the living room and kitchen is downstairs and the bedrooms are upstairs. They called these houses "terrace houses".

As you can see there werent many similarities but the similarities that exist are quite similar (sorry for the odd sentence).
